The game promises to bring the action of the Resident Evil series, but evoke the classic suspense and horror emotions from the early Silent Hill games. Unfortunately based on the preview of The Evil Within it seems they will fail to deliver either experience effectively."

Entertainment Buddha's Matt Heywood writes, "PAX East 2014 has come and gone, and while many new titles were shown off on the expo hall floor, only a few really managed to stand out. One in particular is Airtight Games Murdered: Soul Suspect, which is being published by Square-Enix for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. I was fortunate enough to get some hands-on time with the PAX east demo, which featured nearly 30-minutes of the games opening sequence. The demo itself was running on a PS4, and for the most part it looked great. I wouldnt say that its on Infamous: Second Sons level, thanks to the fact that its also being developed for the older consoles, but it didnt look dated whatsoever. "
